We all know someone who we think has bought fake followers and maybe we’ve even considered it. Do you want to grow your following and your thinking about taking a little shortcut? Before you go and pull the trigger to buy yourself some clout read this!
Buying your followers will not result in what you want. If you’re a creator and looking to get paid this is not the way to do it. If you’re a business and your want to look more legit, please no!
This is a shortcut that is NOT worth the risks and it won’t get you any closer to your true goal.
Here is the top 5 reasons why you should never buy fake followers.
1. Your Engagement Rate Will Tank
Fake followers will drag down your engagement rate, which is one of the most important ratios on the platform. As a business or a creator, your engagement rate is really important! It’s part of how the algorithm will show you to your current followers and new audiences. Of course, you can also buy fake engagement with the fake followers but that just results in spammy emoji comments which is always obvious.
2. Followers/Likes are NOT The Main Metric
We all love seeing our following go up and up… but those numbers matter far less than they used to. With Instagram moving away from showing likes and leaning into the importance of engagement this is what you should be concerned with. Gaining REAL engagement on your posts, stories and in the DMs.
3. It Can Ruin Your Brand Reputation
Being credible and trustworthy is more important now than ever! People want to follow real authentic accounts, not fake spammy weird ones. When you land on a page with 100,000 followers but only 2 comments on a post it’s easy to see that something fishy is going on. People will notice and it will only hurt your brand in the long run. You’ll end up spending money to diminish your brand. Like the viral TikTok says – “They’re gonna know”.
4. You Could Lose Your Account
Buying followers goes against Instagram’s policies which could result in your account being diactivated. IG has also started cleaning up spam accounts and if you are found to have to many spammy bots your account could end up deleted altogether!
5. It’s a Waste of Money
The only positive that comes out of buying followers is the dopamine hit you’ll get when you see the initial increase. After that, it’s all downhill. Your engagement will tank, you’ll be focused on the wrong things, people won’t trust your brand and you could have issues with your account. Sounds like a waste of money to get all negative outcomes. Invest that money into the quality of your content, software or a course and you’ll be much better off!
