There are 1000 creative ways you could support small businesses on social media. It’s important to stop and think about this sometimes. Small businesses are fighting more than ever in this attention economy, to stay relevant and organically reach their audience.

There were over 25 MILLION business accounts on Instagram in 2017 and over 2 MILLION active advertising accounts. That is a lot of competition. Smaller businesses are fighting with big brand account for time in the feed, they’re competing with high engagement rates, higher follower counts and more production dollars.

So how can you support small Businesses on social? Well, pretty easily and affordable too!

Here are 6 Ways You Can Support Small Businesses for FREE!

1. Share Their Content on Social Media

This one is so easy! See a post that you love? Share it with your friends, family, or on your story. This is ideal to do on FB and IG but can be done on any social platform. You can share their content directly from their feed or page or ask them for a photo to use. Most small businesses would be happy for you to share their content!

2. Sign Up For Their Email List

Okay, so maybe you can’t buy from them right this moment but you can always join their email list! It’s a great way to show your support and keep up to date with their business. This also will keep you on their “list” figuratively and literally.

3. Leave a Review or Testimonial on Socials

How sad is it that most people only leave reviews when they are unhappy 🙁 That’s easy to change! Have you written a positive review this week, this month, this year? If the answer is no to any of those questions… head to your fav small biz Facebook page, Google My Business Page or send them a kind note through the DMs. These are so important and helpful for small businesses and takes you only a few moments. Also, it’s just a nice thing to do!

4. Shout Them Out on Social Media

Throw up a story next time you visit, buy from them or use their product/service. The extra exposure you provide by sharing your positive feelings toward a small business go a long way!

5. Leave a Comment

Cheer them on by leaving a comment! The algorithm can be tough as a small business, by leaving a comment it can give them the boost they need to reach others like you organically. If you see an ad and like it leave a comment, even if it’s just an emoji! This takes almost no time, seriously like 1.2 seconds. No brainer.

6. Tag a Friend

As a reminder you can always support small businesses offline by referring your friends to them or being an advocate for their brand to your circle of influencer. Online you can do the same by tagging a friend you think would benefit or like the business too. Effort level = low, impact level = potentially high! It’s a win/win.

Remember, these are only a few simple ways you can support a small business, but there are so many ways you can support small businesses on social media and offline too. I could write a list that goes on forever but most important is that you share some love!

Again, I’ll reiterate you should try to shop small when you can. Leave positive reviews, tell your friends and family and most importantly, spend your money at local businesses. Your support and encouragement can mean the world to a small biz. So, get out there and share some love!
