A social media manager is many things!
Honestly, it’s kind of an umbrella term that a lot of titles or roles can fall under.
Social media management refers to the full-service approach to social media, this is usually offered through package deals rather than hourly which in the long run saves headaches, time and outlines expectations!
Packages can include a la carte services ranging from social strategy, content creation, scheduling, planning, reporting etc. Often companies have in-house social media managers, but this is a role that is sometimes outsourced to freelancers or contractors.
One of the main benefits of an in-house social media manager will have a strong understanding of your brand, voice, culture and goals!
Often, businesses or small biz owners keep social media in-house while not properly allocating resources to this position. So it can fall as a secondary or tertiary responsibility of an existing employee or owner. This is when problems can arise from inconsistent social media management.
It’s tough to master this role if it’s:
A) Not something the person is truly interested in.
or
B) Not something this person understands.
As a business owner do you need a social media manager? Maybe not!
Maybe you’re truly interested and have the time and desire to learn to run social yourself. To that, I say, awesome!
There is so much information and strategy to learn! This though is where a social media coach might come in handy…
What’s a social media coach?
A social media coach is like your guide or teacher. You work 1-on-1 with a coach to better understand how to use social media efficiently and effectively to market your business. This is usually on an hourly basis, where you can invest as much time and budget as you see fit. The coach and you will build a strategy and process that works specifically for you!
Now that you know the difference between a coach and a social media manager the next question is do you need one?
Every business owner is short on time + money. So I always ask people the following questions to figure out if outsourcing to an expert would be helpful.
- Do you feel overwhelmed by social media?
- Does running your social media cause you stress?
- Take up too much of your valuable time?
- Are you putting in the effort but not seeing results?
- Do you “not get” social media?
- Do you want to take your business to the next level but don’t know how?
If you answered yes to any of these questions then you could potentially benefit from outsourcing your social media marketing or getting help from a coach.
It comes down to time and money.
Your time is valuable, if you think that getting help with an important aspect of your business will save time, make money or save money then it will be worth it! If you are spending 5 hours a week trying to figure out your social media and that could be reduced to 15 minutes with the help of a social media manager, imagine what you can do with those extra hours! ⠀
In a digital world, leveraging social media for your business is an important and cost-effective strategy that every business owner should be using. Posting consistently is so important. There is nothing worse than looking up a business and seeing their last post or update was 2 years ago… are they still open? What’s going on here? I guess I’ll buy from somewhere else… don’t let that be your business!
A social media manager will make your business their priority, keep it professional, reliable and relatable across all your platforms!
